Summer is now rolling along nicely and the weekend is upon us again. But this time, for me, it’s a trip of a lifetime! My passion for motorcycles is self evident, and I have followed MotoGP my whole life. My uncle was a Kawasaki Grand Prix rider in the late 70’s and early 80’s and I grew up listening to the sound of screaming race bikes (until I discovered the sound of screaming rock singers, but that’s a whole other story!) Anyway, fast forward to this year’s Red Bull MotoGP and I find myself invited to fly up to Monterey tomorrow to visit Laguna Seca Raceway, as a guest of Alpinestars. And to top things off rather spectacularly, I get to go around the world famous race circuit on the BACK of a GP bike….ridden by the one and only Randy Mamola!!! I remember watching Randy race in the UK at Brands Hatch AGAINST my Uncle in the TransAtlantic trophy races, and now he’s gonna take me for a spin and do a lap or two around Laguna Seca – at speed. Check out the pic – the one on the left is Randy setting off with Prince Harry on the back at the UK round of the GP. On Sunday, it’s Morrison’s turn!!
The Annual Camp Freddy ESPN/X-Games show takes place next weekend, and while of course I’m not going to announce our guests ahead of time, I can tell you that this will be the best line up we’ve had so far in the seven years we’ve been doing this particular show. We rehearse on Tuesday and I can’t wait to run a few of these songs then! It feels good to be gearing up for some Freddy – we have all been so busy this year and while Camp Freddy is designed to be an occasional event, we have been together for nearly ten years, so I miss those guys when we don’t play. Roll on next weekend. Oh yeah, and right in the middle of these two killer weekends, I begin work on the movie K-11 – I’ll be on set every day for three weeks and no doubt will be able to throw a Tweet or an update your way occasionally. I can tell you that my character’s name is ‘Hollywood’…… perfect!! I’m excited to get down on set and experience the process of making a movie again. It’s something I truly love doing, and I have been lucky enough to have made a few already. But this one – well, it’s just got that certain something about it.
Seems like the next few weeks are packed with good stuff. And that’s something I make sure I never take for granted. Every day is a bonus for someone like me – so I try to make the most out of it all. Even the bad stuff. Life throws curve balls at everyone – that’s simply life. But I believe it’s how you react to the curve ball that shapes who you are and what kind of experience you’ll have while you’re here.
